WORCESTER Plans for a skateboard park at Crompton Park have been approved by the Parks and Recreation Commission and are ready to move forward.
The Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously approved the master plan for the skate park in December. In a communication to the City Council ahead of Tuesday s meeting, City Manager Edward M. Augustus noted there is $2 million in capital funds for the project in the Fiscal 2021 budget. The Master Plan has been designed to meet the needs, wants, and desires of the neighbors, city residents, and skatepark community, Augustus said in the communication.
The parks commission s approval paves the way for final design and for construction to begin in earnest. The city of Pawtucket is suing the owners of the Pawtucket Red Sox for allegedly failing to repair and maintain the baseball stadium where the team played as they were obligated to do under a contract.
In a lawsuit filed Jan. 7, the city sued the owners of the PawSox for failing to maintain the city-owned McCoy Stadium, though the suit did not name a specific amount of damages sought, The Providence Journal reported.
The PawSox are moving to Worcester, Massachusetts, and are scheduled to start playing there later this year.

“The way we really look at it is that UMass Memorial is really part of the fabric of the community, and we rely on the community as much as the community relies on us,” said Catheryn McEvoy, vice president of communications at UMMHC Health Care, and a prior co-chair of the event.
A black-tie event, the fundraiser is at once an opportunity to support the hospital network financially as it is a chance for the region s movers and shakers to gather in one space.
In 2020, of course, normal plans for a 450-person gala event were upended, and the event planners switched to a 90-minute virtual program. With donations still trickling in, McEvoy said the event is close to raising $1 million, about half of what it raised in each of the past two years.
