DALLAS Mayor Eric Johnson on Monday announced that the 25th annual Dallas Mayor’s Back to School Fair will take place Aug. 6 at Fair Park.
Families must register online at mayorsbacktoschoolfair.com to receive school supplies. The registration deadline is July 30. All families must meet 2021 Federal Poverty Guidelines to receive assistance.
The fair is a collaborative effort between the City of Dallas, Dallas ISD, nonprofits, corporations, and community volunteers; has traditionally served as a time-saving, one-stop shop that offers school supplies and a wealth of information and community resources. But like last year, the fair will have drive-through and walk-up options and will not provide the same resource offerings because of the risk of COVID-19, particularly among children who are not yet eligible to receive a vaccine.

Modernizing Cash Aid for Thousands of Georgia Children in Deep Poverty | Bill Analysis: HB 91 (LC 33 8469)
Introduction
The only program in Georgia that is available to provide direct cash assistance to children in deep poverty Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) does little to reach families with the greatest needs. For those it can reach, it provides insufficient income support. In 1996, 254,000 children and families received direct cash aid, while today only 16,000 have access to TANF, reflecting a dramatic 93 percent decrease in caseload.
[1] Only 5 out of every 100 families in poverty receive cash assistance through TANF.
House Bill 91, which would provide an overdue boost to families with children in deep poverty.
