As civic-minded attorneys, maybe entering politics is the natural thing to do. But while these two Wemples, both Republicans and both descended from one of Schenectady’s original founders more than three and a half centuries ago, were both immersed into electoral politics, no one ever accused them of being a life-long politician. They were both much more than that.
With the passing last month of former Schenectady police sergeant Ray Wemple, their distant cousin, I decided to look into some of the family’s history, and the trip back was well worth the visit. Here are the facts.

The tour of the 109th facilities was part of an effort by the town to bring businesses and school districts serving students in Glenville together to find ways to show students opportunities locally that may not necessarily require a college degree and also offer on-the-job training.
“It’s here but you don’t know it,” said Karen Swain, the assistant superintendent of the Scotia-Glenville School District. She had been chatting with Sgt. Stephanie Lambert on ways the guard and school district might get students together with guard members so students could learn what the guard does at the 109th base.

This new addition to their routine is courtesy of local company Shepherd Communication & Security, which introduced its Elevated Body Temperature technology just a couple of months into lockdown last year. After vetting a few different technologies, the district realized the EBT was exactly what they needed.
