MUMBAI: A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his former girlfriend in the abdomen on a busy road at Saki Naka on Saturday evening, after she refused to continue the relationship. As the incident took place barely 100m from her residence, the 22-year-old woman staggered home and her father, an autorickshaw driver, rushed her to Rajawadi Hospital. She was later shifted to Sion hospital, where she had a surgery on Sunday.
The accused, Arjun Singh, surrendered before Saki Naka police on Sunday morning.
Until a few years ago, Singh used to live in Kurla, not far from the victim’s Saki Naka residence. “They were in a relationship about four years ago and she even moved in with him,” said a police officer. “They lived together for more than a year. But as Singh was addicted to liquor and drugs and could not keep a permanent job, she walked out on himand moved back in with her parents,” he added.
The duo Imran Shaikh (19) and Akshay Sharma (24) were caught within three hours of the incident on February 21.

MUMBAI: Sakinaka police on Thursday arrested a real estate broker and seized 345kg ganja worth Rs 51.8 lakh that he had stocked in his first floor flat at SRA’s Sangharsh Building. Ashok Mehtre (39) was caught from the neighbourhood after police scanned through CCTV footage. Mehtre went into hiding on learning about the raid. Police are collecting details on where the huge quantity was bought from and who was the purchaser here.
The raid came less than 10 hours after Mehtre took the drugs to his flat. Acting on a tip-off, zonal DCP Mahesh Reddy supervised senior inspector Balwant Deshmukh, inspector Budhan Sawant, assistant inspector Liladhar Patil and detection staff. “Mehtre had left his flat on learning about the raid. We opened his house in the presence of a panch and found the huge quantity of drugs,” said Patil.

Saki Naka Police arrested a 39-year-old man for the alleged possession of over 345 kilograms of marijuana worth over Rs 51.82 lakh in Chandivali on Thursday. The accused was arrested based on a tip-off. Police arrested and booked the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act.
According to police, during a constant crackdown on illegal drug rings, they had received a tip-off that a man was to arrive to deliver a narcotic consignment, based on which a trap was laid. Police accordingly raided a room in Sangharsh Nagar area and seized over 345 kg of marijuana, valued at â¹51.82 lakh in the international market, said senior inspector Balwant Deshmukh of Saki Naka police station.
