After enduring the darkest days of the pandemic at the bedsides of COVID patients in their final moments, UC Chaplain Paul Lehmann says the vaccine has provided the first glimmers of light.
It was fitting, says Paul Lehmann, that he received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on the day of the winter solstice.
“From December 21 on, the days start to get longer, and the darkest days are behind us,” he says. “It will only get brighter from here.”
The metaphor offers some hope in what’s been a dark and devastating period for so many including Lehmann himself, who has witnessed the heartbreak firsthand as director of spiritual care for the Mohawk Valley Health System in Utica.
Cambria County Courthouse 11:03 pm
With no end in sight to the pandemic, court systems are continuing to function during the coronavirus, with some adjustments.
Like many other public buildings, the Cambria County Courthouse requires masks to enter the building, uses a thermal temperature scanner and is working in socially distanced courtrooms. The district attorney’s office has also been handling several cases via video calls.
“We can’t afford for the justice system to not function. It just has to continue to function. Again, we owe that to victims, defendants have rights, and we owe that to the public to continue to serve and we are doing so in the best and safest possible manner,” explained Cambria County District Attorney, Greg Neugebauer.
