Epping Forest deer cull proposed by City of London | Epping Forest Guardian

Deer in Epping Forest could be culled over the next five years to bring the numbers down to 150. The City of London Corporation is looking at bringing the numbers of deer down from an estimated 600 to 800 to a “more sustainable level” in the 8,000-acre wood which runs from Forest Gate to Epping. It said too many deer can have an impact on the habitat of other wildlife and can also lead to over grazing. Deer can also damage farm crops. The Corporation commissioned a deer review in 2017 after an outcry when it gave the contract to cull deer to the private hunting club Capreolus Club in 2016.

Campaigner claimed victory in Epping Forest representation battle five years ago

Paul Morris in Epping Forest It is five years since victory was being claimed to give the public more influence over changes to Epping Forest. A campaigner has said a new public group could help reconnect the people and the ‘people’s forest’. Paul Morris has claimed victory after the City of London Corporation (CoL) agreed to develop plans for a public committee, giving a voice to comment on changes being made in Epping Forest. The move follows an online petition, simply saying “Keep Epping Forest free of charge for the people”, which gained almost 15,000 signatures. Forest parking charges and potential cycling charges from the CoL faced heavy criticism, and there are fears that proposed changes to the Epping Forest Act in parliament could give the corporation greater control and increase opportunities to use the forest to raise money.

Could blue light glasses help with eye fatigue?

Could blue light glasses help with eye fatigue? Do you find yourself ending the day with red, itchy and burning eyes? Have you been getting headaches that you can’t chalk up to a few too many lockdown drinks? Perhaps you have a stiff neck too? Then you could be experiencing the symptoms of digital eye strain. The condition – although mostly temporary, with symptoms usually disappearing after a break from screen use, according to BUPA – is uncomfortable and can occur when you spend too long staring at digital devices. And if you’re currently working on a computer all day then spending several more hours in front of Netflix in the evening, it’s no wonder your eyes are feeling more exhausted than usual.

Little Haven pub The Swan Inn saved

AN iconic Pembrokeshire pub has been granted critical financial support, after Senedd member Joyce Watson stepped in to help. The Swan Inn, which overlooks Little Haven beach, received coronavirus business support during the first national lockdown – but had not qualified for further assistance since last September, when the owners took over from the previous tenants. After undertaking an extensive renovation of the 200-year-old listed building, landlord Paul Morris applied to Pembrokeshire Council for new money from the Welsh Government’s Covid-19 Economic Resilience Fund. The claim was initially rejected because he did not receive the property back from his tenants until 10 days after the official cut-off date for the financial support scheme.
