“A few more years, and men won t exist,” mourns one of the unemployed workers in “The Full Monty.” Sheffield was once a thriving British manufacturing town, known for its steel, but now its mills are closed and the men hang about all day in the gloomy job center, where there are no jobs to be found. Their remaining functions in life seem limited to drinking as much as possible, getting into mischief, and avoiding child support payments they can t afford.
From this grim working-class prospect, “The Full Monty” creates a lovable comedy, as the men decide to go where the work is. The Chippendale Dancers have recently entertained a full house at a local club, including most of the wives, mothers, daughters, sisters and girlfriends of the unemployed workers. SKIPTON actor Michael Thompson who has had roles in the likes of Coronation Street and Harry Potter is filming a short film in the town this Saturday. Sully Lad is Michael’s poem, taken from his book, Cavetown Baby and is a story of a friend that died and his interactions with figures of authority in his life. “It is a tale of addiction. Sadly we hope it will show to others that recovery is not a path for all,” said Michael. The two main roles are being carried out by Derek Lawson who has appeared in Coronation Street, Shameless, Cold Blood and Casualty, as well as featured in Day Zero, on Amazon prime, in theatre and short films.

WORCESTER, Mass. - The U.S. Department of Labor says more than 900,000 jobs were added across the county in March, that’s the most since August.
However, filling some of those positions hasn’t been easy. Restaurants in Central Massachusetts say they’re struggling to find people for open jobs.
Signs are hanging in windows across Central Massachusetts. Nick Panarelli, who owns Bucks Whiskey & Burger Bar on Green St. in Worcester, says when he used to post an open job, he’d get 40 applications, now he gets about 10.
“It just gives you slimmer pickings when you’re going through everything. Sometimes you luck out and there s just some good people that randomly show up and kind of hope for the best, Panarelli said.
