WORCESTER The Canal District rolled out the red carpet five years ago when the neighborhood initiated a drive that overwhelmed the team with 10,000 postcards. This week, the Worcester Red Sox finally arrived to play the team s first game at Polar Park in the heart of the Canal District, and businesses there are beyond thrilled to welcome the new hometown team. WooSox banners are hanging throughout the neighborhood, shops are promoting opening day events and restaurants are planning game-day specials.    The Worcester Red Sox play at 3 p.m. Tuesday against the Syracuse Mets. “I’m very excited. Restaurants Struggling to Find Help

By Katie Benoit Worcester SHARE WORCESTER, Mass. - The U.S. Department of Labor says more than 900,000 jobs were added across the county in March, that’s the most since August.  However, filling some of those positions hasn’t been easy. Restaurants in Central Massachusetts say they’re struggling to find people for open jobs.  Signs are hanging in windows across Central Massachusetts. Nick Panarelli, who owns Bucks Whiskey & Burger Bar on Green St. in Worcester, says when he used to post an open job, he’d get 40 applications, now he gets about 10.  “It just gives you slimmer pickings when you’re going through everything. Sometimes you luck out and there s just some good people that randomly show up and kind of hope for the best, Panarelli said.

Each time the foot traffic in the district appears to increase. He’ll watch cars park near his spot, Russo Italian Restaurant and walk across the neighborhood to the Worcester Public Market. Others park a few blocks north, on Green Street, for a night inside one of the outdoor igloos at his other restaurant, Locke50.
