SALEM St. Paul School in Salem is hosting a virtual egg hunt. Inspired by the “bear hunts” enjoyed by many local children and adults at the beginning of the lockdown last spring, St. Paul School teachers and students came up with the idea of creating an Easter egg hunt using yard signs.
The school is selling yard signs made of corrugated plastic with special UV resistant badging created by Halls of Fame in Lisbon.
Local families and businesses can purchase an egg sign for $20. These numbered egg signs can be placed in a yard or in a window. The eggs on the signs can be decorated to uniquely for family or business, or the signs can be displayed as is.

Kaiden Curtis
Sixth-grader Samuel Yakubek will represent St. Paul School in Salem in the Columbiana County Spelling Bee March 3 after winning a spell-off against fellow sixth-grader Kaiden Curtis during the online school bee this week on the written word “corporate.” This year will be quite different for spellers at many schools and during the county contest due to Covid-19 and the need for social distancing. Instead of standing on stage, they’ll sit at a computer screen. As runner-up, Curtis will serve as the St. Paul School alternate for the county bee, which will use an online platform of 30 words. At St. Paul School, 23 fifth- and sixth-grade students took a written test of 25 words, with 13 qualifying for the school bee, which used the Scripps online platform of 25 words. There was a tie between Sam and Kaiden, who both scored 19 out of 25. They had a spell-off of written words “detergent,” “snorkels,” and “corporate.” (Submitted photos)
