Frameline, which produces the LGBTQ film festival in San Francisco, has announced that after an extensive search, it has hired a queer Black woman as its director of programming. Allegra Madsen joins the nonprofit organization following success at San Francisco s Bayview Opera House, a news release stated. In the role, Madsen, 41, will oversee the curatorial vision and execution of Frameline s signature International LGBTQ+ Film Festival, which celebrates its 45th anniversary this year. She will also direct the implementation and programming of all non-festival programs and projects. I am thrilled to welcome Allegra Madsen as our new director of programming, Frameline Executive Director James Woolley stated. She arrives at Frameline with extensive experience in arts and film programming, and has recently been curating one of the most-loved venues in the Bay Area.

Timothy Ray Brown Virtual Memorial Service Timothy Ray Brown is considered to be the first person cured of HIV. Known initially as “The Berlin Patient,” he dedicated his life to supporting HIV cure research after being cured of HIV following two stem cell transplants, which were done to treat acute myeloid leukemia. Timothy traveled to conferences around the world and inspired researchers, activists and people living with HIV with his story. Sadly, Timothy’s cancer returned last year, and he passed away on September 29, 2020. He was 54. There will be a virtual memorial service for Timothy on Feburary 16 his “cure” birthday. Speakers will include his partner Tim Hoeffgen, Dr. Nichole Klatt, Dr. Thomas Hope, Dr. Jonah Sacha, Dr. Paula Cannon, Jeff Taylor and Michael Louella.

Vaccine clinics for farmworkers being held in the east valley this week A COVID-19 vaccination clinic for farmworker employees is being held at Anthony Vineyards in Coachella this week. Two more clinics will be held on Friday in the communities of Oasis and Thermal, per a county spokesperson. Anthony Vineyards is a grape growing and shipping company based in the east valley. This week, Monday-Thursday, employees can get a COVID-19 vaccine free of charge. The clinic is a joint effort on behalf of Riverside County, the Desert Healthcare District and other community-based organizations such as TODEC Legal Center and El Sol.
