Memorial for Timothy Brown, first person cured of HIV, planned in Palm Springs
Timothy Ray Brown, the first known person to be cured of HIV, died of cancer in his Palm Springs home on Sept. 29, 2020. He was 54 years old. On Friday, he was memorialized in Palm Springs.
Brown learned he had HIV in the 1990s while working in Berlin, Germany. He received a transplant related to his leukemia in 2007 the cancer that would return years later leading to his death. It was while he was being treated for that cancer in Berlin that his HIV infection was cured. He became known as the Berlin Patient.
Frameline, which produces the LGBTQ film festival in San Francisco, has announced that after an extensive search, it has hired a queer Black woman as its director of programming.
Allegra Madsen joins the nonprofit organization following success at San Francisco s Bayview Opera House, a news release stated.
In the role, Madsen, 41, will oversee the curatorial vision and execution of Frameline s signature International LGBTQ+ Film Festival, which celebrates its 45th anniversary this year. She will also direct the implementation and programming of all non-festival programs and projects. Timothy Ray Brown “The Berlin Patient” Memorial Campaign and Community Consortium Announced

San Francisco & Palm Springs, Feb. 10, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) A consortium HIV/AIDS organizations have launched the Timothy Ray Brown “The Berlin Patient” Memorial Campaign (TRB Memorial Campaign), a community effort to memorialize Brown’s journey and life. The consortium will raise funds for a memorial boulder with a touching inscription in the National AIDS Memorial Grove in San Francisco and a memorial bench and plaque in Wellness Park adjacent to the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
