Cave Creek voters chose independence on Election Day July 8, 1986
True grit. Cave Creek citizens have always been known for their character. The election on July 8, 1986 was the culmination of 15 months of aggressive action by doggedly determined members of the community led by members of the Cave Creek Incorporation Committee: John Hoeppner, Cheri Hoeppner, Jacky Davis, Don Radke, Jo Walker, Ed Walker, Jim Threadgill, Jim Hines, Ted Rothman (Chairman), Betty Garrison, Carl Bixler, Paul Helms, Rupert Johnson, Susan Svitak, Bill Webster, and Bernice Webster.
The Commemorative Edition of the Cave Creek Messenger, which was published only once, is informative as to the state of things in Cave Creek at the time of the vote to incorporate).
Tax season is here, and free return-preparation services have opened their doors. But it will be different this year and likely more complicated and slower because of the pandemic.
Virtual preparation help and drop-off services will largely replace in-person meetings. That means taxpayers either will need to consult with volunteer preparers over Zoom and sign their returns electronically, or they will need to gather up key documents and drop them off with preparers, picking them up several days later. Appointments will be needed throughout the process.
Focus on lower-income help
Several local programs are run for the benefit of low- and moderate-income taxpayers (generally a 2020 income of $57,000 or less) through the VITA or Volunteer Income Tax Assistance network. These programs rely on volunteers certified by the Internal Revenue Service. The services generally are available to seniors and people with disabilities without any income limits.
