Chandler Center, Bridgewater Community Center get grants

RANDOLPH The Chandler Center for the Arts and the Bridgewater Community Center were among nine projects in rural communities to win funding from the Preservation Trust of Vermont, the group announced Friday.
The Chandler Center in Randolph is receiving $50,000 for a revitalization grant, and the Bridgewater Community Center, located at the former Bridgewater Village School, won $100,000 to help convert the building to a child care and community center.
Grants overall totaled $625,000 and also were awarded to projects in Addison, Athens, East Calais, Elmore, Hyde Park, Montgomery and Vernon.
The money will be used for structural repairs, renovations, roof replacements and other related work on the projects.

Budget: The warning calls for total expenditures of $1.1 million, with $783,000 to be raised in taxes. That represents a 2.6% increase in required taxes. The municipal tax rate is estimated to increase by less than a penny and would be 43 cents per $100 of value.
Contested races: Selectboard member Norman “Nope” Martin is being challenged by George Spear.
Pandemic Precautions: The town of Bridgewater is holding drive-thru voting rather than a floor meeting because of COVID-19.
When and where: Drive-thru Australian ballot voting will take place from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at the Town Office.
