Eighty-five percent of Illinoisans 65 and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, state health officials report.
That s one metric used to determine whether the state is ready to move to a Bridge Phase that will allow greater capacity in many businesses, which Gov. J.B. Pritzker said will happen May 14.
He anticipates a move to fully reopening the state by June 11, he announced at a news conference Thursday touting an effort to grant primary-care physicians statewide access to vaccine doses.
Meanwhile, Illinois Department of Public Health officials also announced Thursday 99,599 more COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered statewide.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has announced that Illinois will enter the Bridge Phase of the state s reopening plan next week, with plans to fully reopen in June.
Illinois has been in Phase 4, without added mitigations, for much of 2021, but the Bridge Phase will loosen restrictions further and increase capacity limits before the final Phase 5.

CHICAGO Illinois Gov. JB Pritkzer Thursday announced Illinois will move into the Bridge Phase of Restore Illinois on Friday, May 14, making a full reopening possible as soon as June 11.
“The light we can see at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter and brighter,” said Pritkzer. “For restaurants, bars, retail, and public gatherings, this means higher capacity limits.”
Barring any significant reversals, Phase 5 will be achieved as soon as Friday, June 11.
Pritzker said CDC guidelines will continue to be followed in Phase 5, such as wearing masks in public areas.
“I want to thank people across Illinois who are continuing to do their part to make your friends and family safer,” said Pritkzer. “If we’re going to truly end [the pandemic], we have to make sure we don’t see another surge in the virus.

ILLINOIS, USA On Friday, May 14, the State of Illinois is set to move into the Bridge Phase of pandemic mitigations.
The Bridge Phase, which is a transitional phase between Phases 4 and 5, means higher capacity limits for restaurants, gyms, offices, festivals, and other public areas and events.
In Phase 5 there are no capacity limits.
In a press briefing Thursday, May 6, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker said Phase 5 could come as early as Friday, June 11. Though Phase 5 doesn t mandate capacity limits, the governor said the state would continue to follow CDC guidelines where it comes to masking and social distancing.
