Our Mountain Garden At Lookout Mountain, Ga., Nearing Completion Friday, February 12, 2021 - by Gail Perry Our Mountain Garden in Lookout Mountain, Ga. just off of Witt Road is right on schedule and nearing completion, said Jimmy Campbell at the February town council meeting He is the community volunteer who has headed up the project since its inception. Most of the plantings are in and have benefited from the rainy winter. Next week, a meeting has been planned with others who have been involved in the garden’s creation to finalize plans for a stone patio. Mr. Campbell wants to make sure it is designed to accommodate groups of students to use as a classroom or for community activities such as a small live band.

The project will address safety and ADA accessibility issues, upgrading the sidewalks that serve the area. Plans include a combined use path to be constructed from the intersection of Rock Spring Drive and Memorial Drive to College Avenue, with sidewalk upgrades along College Avenue from Holman to Pleasant. Additionally, Johnson Street from Tremont to College Avenue will received sidewalk upgrades as well. Alton Public Works Director Bob Barnhart said the city is following the Illinois Department of Transportation schedule.

JUST IN: Residents Urged to Remain Vigilant Amid Rabies Outbreak

February 5, 2021 at 12:35pm As if the pandemic wasn’t bad enough, there’s now an apparent rabies outbreak in Arlington County. Two days after the county warned of a possible rabies exposure in the East Falls Church neighborhood, animal control has captured two additional raccoons “showing neurological signs consistent with rabies.” The raccoons were both captured in residential north Arlington neighborhoods: one on the 4300 block of 37th Road N., in the Old Glebe neighborhood near Glebe Road Park and the Gulf Branch Nature Center, and another on the 5100 block of 37th Road N., in the Rock Spring neighborhood near Williamsburg Middle School.
