ROCK ISLAND, Ill. The Rock Island City Council has voted four to three in favor of changing the closing time for bars in the District from 3 a.m. to 2 a.m. Bars have been under a temporary ordinance since August that has them currently closing their doors at 2 a.m.
That decision was made after a shooting on August 29th, 2020 that left 43 year old Jesse Brand Junior dead. Now alderman in favor of the change say it will help make the area safer for those looking to visit.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. The Rock Island City Council voted six to zero in favor of a contract with the Quad City Chamber of Commerce to help revitalize the downtown area on Monday January 25th. The $225,000 contract will put someone full time on working towards making the area more attractive to visitors.
The Chamber will provide downtown place management services by implementing a downtown steering committee, making recommendations to the city council on how to best bring revenue, events and businesses into the area, developing a plan for long term funding stability, and making recommendations on how to use the rest of the city’s TIF funds available.
