ODOT plans to clean up Marion County encampments by late July Megan Allison UP NEXT
Over the last year and a half, encampments grew near highways and Interstate-5 in Marion County. Now, the Oregon Department of Transportation is stepping in.
Spokesman Lou Torres said the agency put up notices this week, warning campers that ODOT is cleaning out these sites on July 19.
In the meantime, Torres said ODOT wants to connect those who live within the camps to nearby resources. We’ve had a couple of major fatalities there because of the amount of activity in that area. So we’re real concerned about safety, but then there’s other concerns too: health and environmental concerns, he said.
