Santa Barbara police return $50k to victim of phone scam
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. Santa Barbara Police saved an elderly man from losing more than $50,000 to a telephone scam on July 15.
On July 15, Santa Barbara Police received a report from a 90-year-old victim about a telephone scam.
The victim told officers that he received a phone call from a person alleging that they worked at the United States Social Security Office, they informed the victim that his benefits and his identity had been compromised and that he owed money to the agency. They told the victim that he needs to pay the amount owed through gift cards and a wire transfer.
Jeweler robbed in parking lot of Santa Barbara grocery store
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. The Santa Barbara Police Department is investigating an armed robbery at the Trader Joe s parking lot.
On Tuesday at around 4 p.m., police responded to reports of an armed robbery at Trader Joe s on the 200 block of North Milpas Street in Santa Barbara.
At arrival, they made contact with the victim, a wholesale jeweler from out of town.
The victim says they were robbed at gunpoint while in the car.
They reported that a large amount of jewelry was taken during the robbery.
Police say the suspects appeared to be targeting the victim and have knowledge of the jewelry in the victim s possession.

The UC Santa Barbara Police Department sent a timely warning to all students Wednesday night after it received a report of a rape at Peopleâs Park in Isla Vista on April 5.  Â
The assault, which was reported to the UC Santa Barbara Police Department on April 6, is now being investigated by the Santa Barbara County Sheriffâs office, according to the timely warning. The parties involved in the sexual assault are not affiliated with the UCSB community.Â
The timely warning was sent in accordance with the Clery Act, which requires universities to notify their campus communities when certain crimes, such as stalking, sexual assault and hate crimes, are committed on campus or campus-adjacent property.Â

UPDATE (7:46 p.m.) - Police say Miranda-Rivera is being reunited with her family after she was reported missing Saturday afternoon.
The 12-year-old was found in the Riviera Community thanks to the help of community members, according to officials. -
