The future of the Lake Minnetonka property belonging to a billionaire who killed his wife and then himself is now the subject of a lawsuit filed in Hennepin County.
Barbara Burwell, whose property borders the eastern edge of the 20-acre Jacobs estate at 1700 Shoreline Drive, on Lake Minnetonka s Smith Bay in Orono, has filed a suit claiming a proposal to split up the property into multiple lots would contravene city rules on lake setbacks, and would also see part of her property taken and trees removed to make way for road improvements.

A neighbor is suing the estate of the late Minnesota businessman Irwin Jacobs and the city of Orono over a preliminary plan to divide part of Jacob s 20-acre property into six subdivisions that would eventually be sold to build houses and new streets.
The complaint, filed last week in Hennepin County District Court by neighbor Barbara Burwell, alleges that the redevelopment plan violates city lakeshore setback rules and could also lead to the seizure of a chunk of Burwell s land, should the city or county install new turn lanes for traffic along Shoreline Drive.
