Wrapped in 60,000 Lights, 150-Year-Old Pecan Tree Becomes Symbol of Hope in Small-Town Texas Meghan Overdeep
Every holiday season, hundreds of people make the trek to Barbara Nunneley’s ranch in the tiny town of Bartonville, Texas, to bask in the glow of a 150-year-old pecan tree.
From Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day, the 50-foot tree is wrapped in 60,000 white lights so bright, that they almost look blue.
Nunneley told
Texas Monthly that decorating every inch of the towering tree has been a family tradition since 2007, when she first asked The Christmas Light Company to help surprise her dad, who was battling prostate cancer, with an extravagant display of Christmas lights.
