Sherman ensemble ready for its summer season

Schedule gets under way this weekend July 5, 2021 Keisuke Ikuma is an accomplished musician on oboe and the English horn. (Contributed) The Sherman Chamber Ensemble, under the artistic direction of Eliot Bailen, will kick off its summer concert series Friday and Saturday. The Friday concert will start at 6 p.m. at Judy Black Memorial Park and Gardens, 1 Green Hill Road in Washington Depot. On Saturday the ensemble will perform at 6 p.m. at Sherman Town Center in IGA Plaza, at Routes 37 and 39. Both are outdoors. The performance begins with Samuel Barber’s “Summer Music for Wind Quintet” – a small woodwind ensemble – and grows to a nonet for Louis Spohr’s “Nonet in F Major, Op. 31” for strings and winds, where each instrument is highlighted for its individual character.

ASO presents an evening of beauty, hope and joy

ALBANY, N.Y. — On Saturday, the Albany Symphony Orchestra performs its final concert of what they termed “The Reimagined 2020-2021 Season.” Last spring, after cancelling the remaking concerts of the 2019-2020 season, they changed the entire announced season, for 2020-2021. They substituted works of smaller sized orchestras. They found ways to rehearse and perform in socially distant ways, while adhering to all safety protocols. The season looked more like chamber orchestra programming than a full-symphonic orchestra. - Advertisement - David Alan Miller, Music Director and conductor of the ASO believes it was a major accomplishment just to put on six concerts. That they were of high quality and greatly supported by his subscriber base and the public-at-large was an added bonus. “The challenge was in doing, and we did it.”
