New Delhi: The Union Budget 2021-22 presented in Parliament on Monday (February 1) by the Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman clearly reflected the deep imprint the global pandemic of COVID-19 has left on the country’s public health landscape.
Starting her Budget speech with the narration of the country’s fight against COVID-19, and the various timely, graded and proactive measures taken by the Union Government, the Union Budget presented by the Finance Minister strongly positioned Health & Wellbeing as one of the 6 crucial pillars of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat. Healthy India, along with other sectors “will further strengthen the sankalp of Nation First”, she stated while presenting the Budget.
The Union Cabinet will hold a meeting at 10:15 am before the presentation.Usually, the duration of the presentation ranges from 90 to 120 minutes. This year, the Union Budget will be delivered in paperless form for the first time.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has proposed taxability of interest on various provident funds where income is exempt, in her Budget speech presented in Parliament on Monday (February 1). The Budget for the fiscal year beginning April will now make interest on employee contributions to PF above Rs 2.5 lakhs per annum taxable effective April 1, 2021.
In the 2020 Budget, the finance minister had capped the tax exemption on employers contribution to PF, NPS and superannuation funds at an aggregate of Rs 7.5 lakh per annum.
