Weston s High Street Heritage Action Zone gets funding

Morag Myerscough with her Love at First Sight artwork. - Credit: Ian Georgeson Weston’s Heritage Action Zone has been granted £119,690 for a three-year cultural project reaching out to the diverse communities within the town, as part of Weston’s Placemaking Strategy and in partnership with Culture Weston.  Weston is one of 60 High Street Heritage Action Zones which have been awarded a grant by Historic England to deliver community-led cultural activities on their high streets over the next three years.  Fiona Matthews, creative director at Culture Weston said: “The project aims to build local pride and renewed respect for the high street by enabling experiences and physical landmarks to emerge, that instil awe and a sense of belonging, creating a town centre that is both a home and a destination.”

Middlesbrough is among the high streets to receive funding Picture: SARAH CALDECOTT HIGH streets across the region have been awarded a share of £831m Government funding to help them bounce back from the pandemic. Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick announced yesterday that 72 areas across England will receive money to implement ambitious plans to improve transport infrastructure, build new homes and transform underused spaces. Sunderland, Bishop Auckland, Blyth, Loftus, Middlesbrough, Stockton, Northallerton and South Shields will each receive funding. This includes £16.54m for Stockton to fund a land bridge over Riverside Road between the High Street and River Tees, as well as a new urban park.
