2 judges designated for 41 coal scam cases

The SC on Monday appointed 2 Delhi judges, Arun Bhardwaj and Sanjay Bansal, as special judges for the CBI cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act to conduct trials in 41 sensational coal scam cases pending since 2014.
A Bench headed by CJI Sharad Arvind Bobde agreed with the request of special public prosecutor RS Cheema to have 2 presiding officers to expedite the trial in place of Special Judge Bharat Parashar conducting the trials for more than six years since his appointment on 19.08.2014 in the Patiala House case here.
The Bench, also comprising Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian, acted on a letter of Delhi High Courtâs registrar general for permission to post another suitÂaÂble judge to deal with the cases since a judge is normally posted to a court for 2 years.

Earlier special judge Bharat Parashar was conducting trials in around 40 coal scam cases and has been replaced by two judges after the apex court recently took note of a letter from the Delhi High Court s Registrar General that permission be granted to nominate or post another suitable presiding judicial officer as special judge in place of Parashar.
A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde considered the five names of judicial officers provided by the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court and said that it assumed that all the judges are good.

The Supreme Court on Monday appointed Arun Bhardwaj and Sanjay Bansal as Special Judges to preside over two separate courts and continue trials in 41 pending cases in connection with the coal block allocation scam.
A Bench led by Chief Justice of India Sharad A. Bobde decided on the two senior judges on the basis of a panel of names handed over by the Delhi High Court Registrar General.
