An official said that the operation was still underway and massive searches are being launched to rule out the presence of any more militants. He said that the group had recently infiltrated from Gurez and at least two killed militants are Pakistan nationals. Acting on a specific information about the presence of militants in Shokbaba forest area, joint teams of police, Army’s 13, 14 and 14 RR and CRPF launched a search operation in the wee hours today.

Acting on a specific lead about the presence of militants in village Warpora, joint teams of police, Army’s 22 RR and CRPF’s 179 and 92 BNs launched a cordon and search operation last night. As the security forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, who retaliated, triggering an encounter. In the ensuing gunfight, two militants were killed.

Most of the major mosques here that normally attract large congregations remained closed, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and guidelines issued by the administration. People in the Srinagar city largely celebrated Eid-ul-Adha, the festival of sacrifice in their homes today, paying heed to appeals made by the authorities in view of the COVID-19.
