However most publishers celebrated subscriptions and digital growth offsetting much of the loss in newsstand sales during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The two biggest paid-for magazines in the UK, excluding branded National Trust and supermarket titles, are Bauer’s TV Choice with a circulation of 1,041,826 which is down 5% year-on-year, and Future’s What’s On TV, down 10% to 689,427.
Bauer, whose other biggest titles are Take A Break (down 11% to 365,869) and Yours (177,121), said one in five of its titles saw year-on-year growth in the second half of 2020 despite the extraordinary times.
The 6% average decline was worked out using every magazine title whose latest circulation was published in ABC’s biannual report on Thursday.
For some titles it uses full-year figures while others are July to December only. The figures include digital editions where applicable and some include non-UK circulations where specified.

Among the hardest-hit were ES Magazine, the Evening Standard’s free weekly lifestyle title which paused publication for six months and returned in September. It returned with a weekly distribution of under 200,000 compared to 357,606 in the second half of 2019.
Slimming World Magazine saw its circulation fall by 36% between July and December while Bauer’s Heat and Closer saw decline of 35% and 32% respectively. Bauer pointed to 40% year-on-year subscription growth at Closer and digital growth of 42%, adding that Heat had digital growth of 86%.

Simon will be responsible for leading the team and driving the vision, sales strategy and growth at Bauer Media Advertising.

COOL FM has said DJ Andy Baird will not be presenting his Sunday morning show while it examines social media posts.
It follows comments posted on his Twitter account about Donald Trump and the recent violence in Washington DC, along with posts describing the coronavirus crisis a scamdemic .
His social media presence on both Twitter and Facebook appeared last night to have been deleted.
The presenter, described as the superhero of the station on Cool FM s website, hosts a breakfast show every Sunday.
