Division 1 hits the startline. © Bow Caddy Media – Dale Lorimer After the disappointing cancellation of the Helly Hansen Women’s Challenge at Manly in 2020, there was a strong fleet out on the water for Sunday’s running of the 2021 edition. This was the final race of the Sydney Harbour Women’s Keelboat Series, wrapping up the inaugural four-race season across four clubs on Sydney Harbour. Racing was conducted over two divisions using the PHS handicap and was split by a Female Helm subseries and an All-Female Crew subseries. Despite the deep chocolate colour of the water – a legacy of last weekend’s major storms - the breeze filled in to a steady 12 knots plus with perfect timing as the race got under way in bright sunshine.

Bomber Robinson has fond memories of north

Robinson, now 24, was acquired by Flin Flon in 2012 after he played his rookie junior season with the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL. While it can take a while to get to Flin Flon, the remoteness ended up being one of the aspects he appreciated most about his two seasons with the Bombers. “After it’s all said and done, the thing I enjoyed most about playing in Flin Flon was how far out of the way it is,” Robinson said. “Teams don’t like to come up to Flin Flon to play us. We were ‘the team living on a rock up north somewhere,’ supported and held together by the entire town, and we were proud of that. Coming from a big city, the world around you in Flin Flon is just so small and simple, but yet it’s comfortable.”
