Papa Woody s moves to new, bigger location in downtown Sioux Falls
Five years ago, Lisa Esser was focused on starting a food truck with her husband.
Now, she s expanding to her second restaurant location just two years after opening Papa Woody s Wood Fire Pizza in the Jones421 building.
But they aren t moving far - just down the street at 775 N. Phillips Ave. in the Cascades building.
They re adding five times the space, transitioning into a full-service restaurant and are going to expand their menu to include more sandwiches and potentially pasta, Esser said. They re even planning to add a liquor license with a full bar and will have a wrap around porch at their new location.
2020 was a tough year for local businesses everywhere. We already know this for a fact. That s why it is so important that we support small businesses whenever we can.
This pizza joint in Sioux Falls is located in the Jones421 building on Phillips Avenue. Papa Woody s Wood Fired Pizza is exactly what it sounds like. The restaurant specializes in wood-fired pizza, my favorite! According to its website, the family-owned business opened its first location in Sioux Falls in 2019. Believe it or not, Papa Woody s Wood Fired Pizza started as a mobile pizza trailer back in 2016. How cool is that?! This local establishment truly embodies what Sioux Falls represents: Families gathering together to enjoy delicious food and fun!
My 14th and the final burger were The Loukah from Tommyjacks. In previous years, I was pleasantly surprised by Tommyjacks burgers and their food menu in general.
The Loukah is described as, So many flavors, not enough taste buds! Kicking things off with our hand patties 1/3 pound burger! First, we top it with our very own candied bacon! Once those two are perfected, we melt some blue cheese crumbles and shovel on some portabella mushrooms that were simmered in our super-secret apricot glaze! Next, we are off to the races with our crispy onion strings that were battered in our homemade hemp-heart seasoned flour! Adding the finishing touches with a dollop of house mixed slaw, and end this love story with a drizzle of the local favorite special sauce!

Lucky #13 is The Brie and Apple Burger from Crawford s.
The Brie and Apple Burger is described as, House ground, apple-infused Angus burger with artisan greens, tomato, bacon-onion marmalade and Brie cheese on a toasted brioche bun.
First of all, let me just state the obvious, brie is one of the best cheeses in the world! It can go sweet, it can go savory, it is just melty and delicious. So already, this burger is off to a great start.
I will say, I didn t pick up on many apples. I was hoping for that to come through a little more. That being said, the bacon-onion marmalade was great. I could eat that on a cracker or even just with a spoon all by itself. And, a brioche bun is always a solid choice.
Another year of delicious burgers is in the books for the 8th Annual Downtown Sioux Falls Burger Battle. This burger battle season included a record 24 restaurants for this year‘s friendly competition in Downtown Sioux Falls.
But sadly.there could only be one Downtown Sioux Falls Burger Battle winner. Over 11,000 votes were counted and the results are in: You re new 2021 Downtown Sioux Falls Burger Battle Champion is.
