Leyden discusses anticipated revenue from broadband network Published: 1/21/2021 3:24:50 PM LEYDEN The town broadband buildout could produce $300,000 in service revenue in its first year. Speaking before the Selectboard on Tuesday, Andy Killeen, chair of the Leyden Municipal Light Plant and volunteer head of the town’s Broadband Department, said the network’s buildout has continued successfully into 2021. He said the town has about 268 individual locations in town online, with 308 out of 343 possible connecting homes filling out applications. “When I took over the project in the middle of last year from Bob Ryan, we had anticipated the total project cost for the installation phase was going to amount to about $1.29 million,” Killeen said. “Our actual spending to date is about $1.24 million.”

Golden Hawks Meet Tigers Tuesday

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams face off with the Tipton Tigers Tuesday at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman for a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk girls are 7-7 overall, 7-6 in the River Valley entering tonight after a 66-48 loss to No. 9 West Liberty on Friday where they were led by Maddie Nonnenmann’s 16 points and 10 from Myah Lugar. For the season, the Golden Hawks are paced by Nonnenmann at 13 points and six rebounds per game. Amara Jones averages four assists and three steals per game. Tipton enters play with a 4-8 overall record. The Tigers are 2-7 in the River Valley. They have been off since the 11th when they beat up on Calamus-Wheatland 55-25 behind a 25 point 18 rebound double double from Rachel Biermann. On the season Biermann leads the Tigers at 15 points, 10 rebounds and two steals per game. These two teams met in December with Mid-Prairie taking a 58-30 win on the road. The Hawks have won 17 of the last 19 in the serie

Martin survived the attack on Cahirguillamore House by the Black and Tans on December 26, 1920 ); JUST off the Kilmallock Road, 11 miles from Limerick, is an ancient churchyard of Grange. Near the entrance is a neglected monument to an almost forgotten episode in the War of Independence. On December 26, 1920 the British raided a Sinn Fein dance at nearby Cahirguillamore House, leaving five volunteers dead. Martin Conway, Eamon Moloney, John Quinlan, Daniel Sheehan and Henry Wade. Nearby is a grave of Martin O Dwyer of Herbertstown, who was also at the dance that St Stephen s night.

Patriots coach Belichick declines Medal of Freedom from Trump

4 Min Read BOSTON (Reuters) - New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick said on Monday he has decided not to accept the Medal of Freedom from U.S. President Donald Trump in the wake of last week’s siege of the Capitol by the president’s supporters. Politico reported on Sunday that Trump had planned to bestow the highest civilian honor on Belichick. Trump faces an attempt by Congressional Democrats to remove him from office after he urged supporters to march on the Capitol during a rally where he repeated false claims that the Nov. 3 election was “rigged” against him. At least five people died in the attack.
