Human trafficking: NIS rescues 7 suspected victims in Jigawa

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has rescued seven women in Jigawa, suspected to have been trafficked from different states of the country.
The NIS Comptroller in the state, Mr Isma’il Baba, told newsmen in Dutse on Friday that the victims were rescued at Gurai village in Babura Local Government Area of the state.
Baba said the victims, aged between 16 and 27, were apprehended on May 5 at about 3 p.m. on their way to Tripoli, Libya.
He explained that one of them was from Lagos, two from Ogun, one from Kwara, two from Imo and one from Oyo.

As parts of his efforts to relieve economical difficulties, the senator representing Jigawa North-West senatorial district, Dr Abdullahi Sankara has disbursed the sum of thirty-six million naira N36M as Ramadan welfare to individuals and organizations in the 12 local government areas of the zone.
Reports from the state indicated that the financial assistant is coming on the heels of the Ramadan fasting being observed by all Muslims as one of the obligatory aspects of the religion.
Senator Sankara gave the donation yesterday also appealed to members of his constituents to use the Ramadan period to pray for the country and the state to prosper in wealth and guard the youths against evil tendencies.

Kaduna, April 9, 2021 The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘B’, says it has seized items with duty paid value of N51.44 million within two weeks.
Mr Al-Bashir Hamisu, the Comptroller of the Unit, gave the figure while briefing newsmen on the seizure on Friday in Kaduna.
He said the unlawful goods were impounded between March 22 and April 8, 2021.
The comptroller identified the goods to include 801 bags of foreign par boiled rice in 50kg; 180 cartons of foreign spaghetti and 81 kegs of vegetable oil.
He also listed 48 bales of second hand clothes; 28 bags of foreign rice in 25kg and cartons of foreign milk among others.
