Breaking News | Politics Beggars take over Jigawa Governor s residence

Views: Visits 56 Hundreds of beggars, on Monday, besieged the residence of the Jigawa state governor, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, when he paid a visit to his hometown in Babura. The mammoth crowd breached the covid-19 safety protocols as they neither practiced physical distancing nor wore a face mask while demanding welfare packages and gifts from the governor. Governor Badaru was in his community to revalidate his APC membership and as usual, the beggars flocked around his residence to receive him because he always brought gifts whenever he visited. The governor was accompanied by his deputy, Alhaji Umar Namadi, Acting chairman and caretaker of the party (APC), Alhaji Muhammed Umar Dikkuma, chairman Jigawa state APC membership registration and validation Committee, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Dawakiji, members of the State House of Assembly and members of the state executive council.

Police react as political thugs clash in Jigawa, many injured

Daily Post Nigeria Published Police in Jigawa State have confirmed a clash between two rival political thugs groups in Babura Local Government Area of the State on Sunday. It was reported that one person was killed while three others sustained serious injuries in a clash that erupted between rival groups at commissioning of township road in Babura. Police spokesman in the state, ASP Zubairu Aminudeen Ismail, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST. He, however, said no death was recorded in the incident. He said the clash occurred on Saturday while the executive Governor of Jigawa State visited his home town Babura alongside Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi to commission township road.

Millers express fear, raise alarm over massive smuggling of foreign rice

The alarm was raised by the National President, RIMAN, Peter Dama, in a statement made available to Sunday Vanguard, as activities of smugglers of the commodity intensify. According to the statement, millions of tonnes of smuggled rice is being offloaded at various entry points into the country on daily basis, which the association alleged that the Nigerian Customs has gone to sleep as the agency has failed to intercept the illegal consignments and trucking by smugglers.

The entry points were shut from August 20, 2019 to December 17, 2020 In a statement on Friday, RIMAN Chairman, Peter Dama, said tons of smuggled rice are being offloaded at the borders on a daily basis for transportation into Nigerian markets. He listed borders frequently used as Babura, Kongolon, Ibadan, Oyo State, Seme, Owede, Benin, among others. RIMAN urged the authorities to take urgent actions to stem the tide. Dama demanded that vehicles used to transport smuggled rice into Nigeria be confiscated and the culprits arrested and prosecuted.
