Appreciative of the sacrifices of young soldiers who helped their families survive the horrors of war, occupation and hunger three generations ago, children in the Netherlands have been sending letters and wildflower seeds to veterans around the world.

Canton American Legion Auxiliary Unit 16 meets

CANTON A meeting, presided by President Michelle Gorsage, was held by the American Legion Auxiliary April 7. There were 10 members in attendance, including one new member, Rebecca Marvel, who was welcomed. No minutes were read by the Secretary, as she did not attend the previous meeting due to illness. Treasurer Kim Lyons presented the Treasurer’s report, which was reviewed and accepted. Members were nominated and/or elected to be officers of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 16 for this year. Other topics of discussion were the upcoming Poppy Drive; individuals who wish to go to Girls State; honorees who wish to go on the Honor Flight and the upcoming Memorial Day services for this year.

Drug possession: Fernando Gutierrez, 39, 2400 block of S. Iron St. Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). Also, Trespassing.
Trespass: Juan Antonio Garcia, 51, homeless.
Driving while license suspended or revoked: Rudy Munoz, 59, 1300 block of S. Eighth St. Also, possession of drug paraphernalia, open container, no insurance and lighted lamps required.
Fraudulently obtaining services: Carlos Ransdell, 27, homeless. Also, trespass and disorderly conduct.
