To the Editor:
I want to thank the folks in Watertown and Woodbury who reached out to our family since my brother Barry passed away recently at age 75.Â
He fought recurring heart failure and COPD valiantly these past 10 years.Â
We are now relieved that his struggle is over and he is in a better place with his older brothers Brian and Billy.
I would not be able to write this letter had not Barry saved me from a roaring Echo Lake Road, Watertown house fire that occurred four days before Christmas in 1955.Â
While our late mother, Winnie Butterly, carried 2 year old Chuck out of the fire accompanied by 6 year old Judy, I was lost in the upstairs bedroom.Â
WATERTOWNÂ â Barry Alan Butterly entered the gates of Heaven on May 2, 2021.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Marie âReeneâ Butterly; their daughter, Dawn Hughes and her husband, Danny, and the apple of Barryâs eye, his granddaughter, Zoe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 7, at Barryâs hometown parish, St. Johnâs Parish in Watertown.Â
Barry graduated from St. Johnâs School in 1959. Friends and family are directed to meet directly at the church. There are no calling hours.
Barry was a Watertown kid all the way. He grew up on Main Street, working for his father at Butterlyâs Coffee Shop. He played baseball for the Oakville Red Sox with close friends Bobby Palmer, Alan Gustafson and Tony Faressa as teammates.

You might have witnessed a toxic relationship or been in one. Something disturbing is that most of our friends who’re witty and successful often fall into bad spiky hands. But why? Good always attracts good, we all thought so, until we have to listen to our friends complain about their relationships. You may wonder why they don’t simply walk out of those relationships once and for all, huh?
One thing to note is that it’s not at all connected to low standards, after all, smart people tend to apply high standards in all aspects of their lives.
