A councillor says many parts of Kerry are supported in having well-maintained walkways, so it’s only fair that Castleisland receives help too.
That’s according to Fine Gael councillor Bobby O’Connell, who was speaking after the council said it’s to consider taking over the river walk in the town.
Councillor Bobby O’Connell had requested Kerry County Council take over the Castleisland River Walk, saying it’s an important amenity for the area.

He says he fears it could fall into disrepair, despite the huge work of local groups to maintain it, partly due to resources available and the walkway’s size.
Kerry County Council s John Breen says that Level Five restrictions are no excuses for a rise in illicit dumping.
The Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District Manager blasted those engaging in what he called despicable and dirty behaviour after the matter was raised by Councillors at last week s MD meeting.
Independent Councillor Charlie Farrelly said illegal dumping had gone out of control in Castleisland, and he highlighted a laneway in the town at which dumping had attracted vermin.
He said this was of particular concern as the laneway is often walked by school-going children, and he said that the number of rats had actually increased since he last raised the issue at Council.
