The Temple and Belton independent school districts will offer students free breakfast and lunch throughout the 2021-22 school year â a move following guidance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Both districts, like most school systems across Texas, also offered the free meal services last school year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic
âWe know that when students have full stomachs that they are better prepared to learn,â Donna Shelton, Belton ISDâs assistant director of school nutrition, said in a news release on Monday. âWe are grateful to be able to provide nutritious meals to all our students at no charge for another year and hope itâs a real benefit to families.â

The Temple and Belton independent school districts are still actively exploring opportunities for its students, staff and surrounding community members to get vaccinated.
On Thursday, Belton ISD spokeswoman Karen Rudolph announced that Joe M. Pirtle Elementary School â 714 S. Pea Ridge Road in Temple â will host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic from noon to 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Temple ISD Superintendent Bobby Ott said his district will host its COVID-19 vaccination clinic from noon to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11, at Temple High School, 415 N. 31st St.
These free walk-in clinics, which are available to anyone 12 years and older, were made possible following partnerships with Baylor Scott & White McLane Childrenâs Medical Center.

Temple ISD Superintendent Bobby Ott told the Telegram that Adams â who is survived by three children, two brothers and their families â will be celebrated during a two-hour program beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 31, at the Temple High auditorium, 415 N. 31st St.
âShe never stopped serving our children,â Ott said. âEven after retirement, she served on the Temple Education Foundation and assisted several students with college applications and essays. She was committed to our children right up until her last heartbeat. For these reasons, and many more, I think it is only appropriate to welcome this Wildcat back home with a celebration of life at Temple High School.â
