Temple ISD announces no remote learning for 2021-2022 school year

Temple ISD Superintendent Bobby Ott said remote learning was much less effective, especially for younger students. Author: Jim Hice Updated: 9:57 AM CDT April 6, 2021 TEMPLE, Texas Temple Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Bobby Ott announced Tuesday there would be no remote learning in the 2021-2022 school year. Ott said the district would develop and revise the current health and safety protocols that are consistent with local authority guidance. “Our data shows that students who were enrolled in on-campus learning out-performed their remote learning peers across the board, Ott said.   At this point, more than 80% of students in Temple ISD have returned to in-person learning and our health and safety protocols have demonstrated effective results in minimizing the spread of the virus. Temple ISD has not closed a single campus this year due to reaching the 2% threshold as advised by the Bell County Health District.”

Temple ISD plans in-person classes only for fall

The Temple Independent School District announced on Tuesday that it will exclusively offer in-person learning for the 2021-22 academic school year. Temple ISD Superintendent Bobby Ott — who noted that the decision followed consultation with the Bell County Public Health District — said about 88 percent of Temple ISD’s students are currently enrolled for on-campus instruction. “Remote instruction has proven to be a far lesser option to in-person learning, in particular for our younger students,” he said in a news release. “Our data shows that students who were enrolled in on-campus learning out-performed their remote learning peers across the board.” The third-year superintendent cited an increase in student failure rates across his district.

Temple ISD Will Not Offer Remote Learning for 2021-2022 School Ye

A local school district has decided that moving forward with remote learning is no longer necessary or as effective as in-person learning. According to a press release from Temple Independent School District, Superintendent Dr. Bobby Ott announced April 6 that in-person learning would be the only option available for students in the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. State and local achievement data prove that remote learning does not yield the same quality learning experiences for students as in-person, Ott writes.  Therefore, Temple ISD - in consultation with the Bell County Health District - will open the 2021-2022 school year with in-person education as the sole option for all students.

Student boom: Central Texas school districts dealing with rapid growth

One in a series. The need for new or expanded school campuses grows daily at Central Texas school districts — especially those located off the state’s busiest highway. By the dozens, new students arrive every month. From just south of the Bell County line to its northern boundaries, school districts adjacent to or near Interstate 35 — Temple, Belton, Salado, Academy, Troy and Jarrell, for example — are dealing with booming student populations that will require campus improvements to accommodate growth in the coming years, officials said. School officials are preparing for the growth by looking at both short- and long-term options: Temple ISD purchased land for a planned elementary that could open in fall 2023.
