Pakistan on Saturday expressed serious concerns after reports emerged of uranium seizure from unauthorised persons in India.
On Friday, Indian police said it had seized over seven kilograms (15.4 pounds) of natural uranium and arrested two men in the western Maharashtra state for “illegally possessing” the highly radioactive substance.
Safeguarding nuclear arsenals should be top priority for all countries, said Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri in a statement.

“Security of nuclear materials should be the top priority for all Countries,” the Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said on Saturday while responding to media queries on the seizure of natural uranium in India.
The Spokesperson said that there is a need for a thorough investigation of the matter as to how such a sizeable quantity of uranium could become available outside any state control and identify the gaps which made this possible.

Islamabad, May 8 (Prensa Latina) Pakistan expressed concern on Saturday about reports on the Indian police s seizure of more than seven kilograms of uranium.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri pointed out that the security of nuclear materials must be the top priority for all countries, the website of the TV channel Ary News reported.
Chaudhri underlined the need to launch an in-depth investigation into how such a considerable amount of uranium could be out of state control, and to identify the breaches that made it possible.
Maha ATS seizes over 7 kg uranium worth Rs 21.3 cr
MUMBAI, May 6: The Maharashtra ATS has seized over seven kg of natural uranium worth about Rs 21.30 crore and arrested two persons in this connection, an official said on Thursday.
The substance is “highly radioactive and dangerous to human life”, the ATS official said quoting a report of an analysis conducted by the BARC.
Acting on a specific information, the Nagpada unit of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had apprehended a 27-year-old Thane resident, Jigar Pandya, with some small pieces of the valuable substance on February 14 this year, he said.
Pandya was allegedly trying to sell it illegally and was in search of a possible customer, he said.
