TNB gives tips on how to save electricity during hot weather

KUALA LUMPUR – As the hot spell is expected to continue until next month, this will result in an increase in electricity consumption.
As such, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has today issued a guideline to help consumers save on their electricity bill.

Among simple daily practices are switching off the air conditioner, fan and lights in an empty room as well as turning off electrical appliances such as computers and monitors when not in use.
According to the guideline when the weather is hot, covering windows with thick curtains to block direct sunlight can prevent heat gain and reduce the load on an air conditioner to cool down a room, thus lowering electricity consumption.
KOTA KINABALU: While flood victims in Sabah are thankful for the help and donations in the form of food and other essentials from the government and other organisations, they also want better flood mitigation initiatives to be put in place for the future.
Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang wants the Sabah government to continue flood mitigation efforts, including drainage and irrigation for Penampang.
The houses of Lasimbang s parents and siblings are among those that are always flooded during the rainy season.
“Floods are an issue that I have been speaking about for many years, and even though I am no longer in the government and have no allocation to help the people solve their woes, I hope the current government will not look away but speed up assistance for those affected, ” she said.

The poor road to the weekly tamu in Bukau.
BUKAU: Local residents as well as traders have urged a contractor of the Pan Borneo Highway project to place rocks along the entrance road to the weekly tamu, near an oil palm factory, here.
Koperasi Usahawan Niaga Beaufort Berhad Chairman Awang Anak Salamat said the road to the tamu is filled with mud and damaged due to the work on the Pan Borneo project.
“We have requested the contractor, through a letter to the State Public Works Department (PWD), to place stones at the junction. But until now, there has been no action.

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said the Sabah Public Works Department (JKR) is projecting the entire 35 packages under phase 1 of the Pan Borneo Highway to be completed in 2040 if the government did not consider other funding initiatives for allocations.
Bung Moktar who is also the state Works Minister said based on 2021 Budget announcement by the Finance Ministry and current trend, it was found that only one package from the remaining 20 packages under phase 1 was approved for 2021.
“Through the projection, Sabah JKR estimated that only five to six packages would be implemented under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and only 21 of the 35 packages would be completed up to 2028.
