KALISPELL â State wildlife officials are seeking public comment on a proposal to purchase a conservation easement in Northwest Montana.
The easement would protect approximately 27,289 acres of timberland, wildlife habitat, and recreation opportunities to the east and south of Libby. The property is owned by the Stimson Lumber Company.
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) would hold the conservation easement and Stimson would retain ownership of the land and continue to sustainably manage for timber production, according to a news release.
The easement would preclude development, protect important wildlife habitat and key landscape connectivity, and provide permanent public access and recreational opportunities on the property.

Alpha Omicron Pi sorority packaged 451 care packages for soldiers overseas for the holidays at the eighth annual Sisters for Soldiers event last week. Over $7,700 was raised to help cover additional supplies and packaging costs.
Members of Alpha Omicron Pi raised nearly $4,000 more than last year’s event and made 59 more packages.
“It was really amazing to see that not only that we got that much more, but that we got that much more during a pandemic,” said Jessie Daake, philanthropy chair for Alpha Omicron Pi.
Sisters for Soldiers relies heavily on donations from the Kearney community.

The American Red Cross came to campus last week to let students donate blood. The blood drive comes at a critical time as COVID-19 cases are spiking across the country.
Anybody able to give blood is encouraged to do so, even outside of the event.
“It’s all for a good cause,” said UNK’s Avery Haskins, a sophomore majoring in interior design. “If you can give blood, you absolutely should.”
The American Red Cross utilized the Ponderosa Room in the Nebraskan Student Union on Tuesday and Wednesday, working with students who helped organize the blood drive. COVID-19 health guidelines slowed the process, but they did not stop students from signing up and lining up in great numbers to give blood. Especially because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Red Cross and the student volunteers of Alpha Omicron Pi took extra precautions to make sure every student was safe.
