Fire crews extinguish hot spots at a campsite set ablaze below the Old Trail Bridge
An arrest has been made, as fire investigators probe a suspicious afternoon blaze beneath the Old Trail Bridge, according to Trail RCMP top cop Sgt. Wicentowich. On May 25, at 1:53 p.m., Trail and Greater District RCMP and Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue responded to a suspicious fire at the camp located underneath the old Trail Bridge on Casino Road in Trail, Wicentowich said. A preliminary investigation carried out at the fire scene revealed that a tent and other items were lit on fire by a suspect. No one was injured during the incident.

Firing bear bangers at people is not funny or a prank - it s a dangerous, potentially life-threatening, crime.
Police are asking the public for information about three young men who allegedly threw bear bangers into a small homeless camp in Trail, according to RCMP NCOIC Sgt. Mike Wicentowich. On April 25, at 1:23 a.m., Trail and Greater District RCMP received a report that three suspects had been discharging bear bangers into the camp located underneath the old Trail Bridge on Casino Road in Trail. One of the discharged bear bangers reportedly came close to striking one person living in the camp.

BACKUS Timber sales were slightly higher in 2020 with aspen continuing to be the highest timber sold.
Land Commissioner Kirk Titus presented the timber sale information during his annual report Tuesday, April 20, to the Cass County Board of Commissioners.
In 2020, 43,028 cords of aspen were sold at an average of $35.88 per cord, for a total of $1,543,658. The price per cord was up approximately $1.50 from 2019. The second highest timber sold was 9,451 cords of red oak for a total price of $335,429, an average of $35.49 per cord, up about $5 per cord. Birch was the third highest timber sold, with 4,895 cords being sold for a total of $99,812 at an average price of $20.39 per cord, up approximately $1.25 per cord.
