Nay Pyi Taw, Feb 4 : Following the coup earlier this week, Myanmar s State Administration Council, led by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Gen Min Aung Hlaing, held meetings with union ministers.
Wednesday s meeting was attended by members of the council, newly-appointed ministers and officials in the capital city of Nay Pyi Taw, reports Xinhua news agency.
Speaking at the meeting, Min Aung Hlaing said that the move of declaration of the State of Emergency on Monday came after the failed request of the military to solve possible voter list fraud in the general elections held in November 2020 despite the expectation of the military for correct voter lists in accordance with the law.
The no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Janez Janša’s government, filed by an informal centre-left opposition coalition known as the Constitutional Arch Coalition, will probably not take place Wednesday as initially planned.
The reason is that the head of the SOVA national intelligence agency, Janez Stušek, has tested positive for COVID-19 after coming in contact with some MPs at a parliamentary committee session. With MPs preferring to vote in parliament, everyone is eagerly awaiting the test results.
The motion of no-confidence, which is based on the government’s failure to cope with the coronavirus pandemic – has the confirmed backing of 42 of the 90 MPs in the National Assembly. The opposition group has also nominated a new PM candidate.
