Skate park in Greenfield

I was thrilled to read this morning about the mayor’s designation of funds for the construction of a new skate park for Greenfield!
Back in the day, it was my son, Charlie Wilkins, who designed and built the first skate park referred to in your article. Mary Cohn and Patty Bordner had worked tirelessly to raise the funds for it at a time when such alternative recreational facilities were quite rare and not necessarily popular.
These many years later, Charlie is now a world-class skate park designer with the products of his skillful designs found from Australia to China to Europe and all over the US. The North Adams park is one of his, as is a beautiful indoor facility for training Olympic snowboarders in Park City, Utah. But it was Greenfield that gave him his start, and for that, and for Greenfield’s continuing investment in its young people, that I am very grateful.
