Like raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, the new Singing Hills Recreation Center is one of my favorite things, and the finest work of public architecture produced in this city during the pandemic. An unapologetically modern design, it joins the rigid discipline of an Austrian naval captain and the optimistic warmth of a nun-turned-governess with a taste for the outdoors.

State and national surveys show that minorities continue to receive COVID-19 vaccinations at rates substantially less than their white counterparts. Author: Kevin Reece Updated: 11:11 PM CST February 4, 2021
DALLAS Faced with the stark reality that, both locally and nationwide, minorities are not receiving the COVID-19 vaccine in numbers proportionate to their populations, city and county leaders are doubling government and community efforts to make sure everyone gets their place in line. The Dallas City Council seems confused. A special meeting called to clarify the city’s role in the deployment of the COVID-19 vaccine ate up the last five hours of Monday night. It was an FAQ come to life, a gumbo of legalese, repeated explanations of state-mandated processes, and a challenge to the mayor’s authority in a time of disaster that went nowhere.

DALLAS The new Singing Hills Recreation Center is open and operating at 25% capacity.
“I think it s a legacy project,” Dallas City Councilman Tennell Atkins said. “I think it s something that should have been done many, many years ago.”
Atkins represents the area around the new recreation center.
The 41,000 square foot facility includes a fitness center and baseball courts, as well as a recording studio, commercial kitchen, computer lab, and senior center.
