Pakistan, India in same group of Junior Asia Cup

KARACHI: Pakistan have been bracketed in Pool A with India, Korea, Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei for the Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2021 taking place in Dhaka from July 1-10.
Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) has released the full schedule for the event according to which Pakistan will play their first match against Bangladesh on July 1 and India on July 4. . Ten teams are participating in this event, which was twice postponed because of COVID-19.
The Pool B consists of Malaysia, Singapore, Uzbekistan, China and Japan. It is first time that this tournament will have ten teams competing. The tournament will be held at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka. It is the qualifying round for Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup. The top three teams of this tournament will qualify for the World Cup.
PHF contacts FIH, AHF for hosting international events

KARACHI: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) will bid for at least two international events, the Senior Asia Cup 2022 and International Hockey Federation (IHF) 8-nation likely to be held in 2023, informed sources revealed to ‘The News’ on Saturday.
The sources said that initial talks have been conducted in this regard with FIH and AHF, and their response is positive.
They said that in the 8-nation tournament teams other than those part of the FIH pro league would be invited. These teams would be from different continents, the sources mentioned.
They said that PHF is ready to organise international tournaments as a number of synthetic turfs have been laid at hockey centres across the country and the condition of grounds has improved.

In hockey, Pakistan, the record four time World Cup winners, are currently ranked 17th. They say hockey is in Pakistanis blood. Even today, very talented players appear on the scene but the pathetic outdated domestic structure means they don`t grow to become stars.
PHF to name players for senior, junior training camps soon

KARACHI: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has finalised the names of the players for Pakistan senior and junior teams’ training camps, schedules and the venues.
The PHF would announce the details related to the engagements of Pakistan’s senior and junior hockey teams in a couple of days, ‘The News’ has learnt.
The names of the players have been sent to PHF president Brig (rtd) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar for final approval, a PHF sources said. He added that the schedule of 12 proposed matches between Pakistan Whites and Pakistan Juniors likely to be held in January and February would also be announced.
