Massive Infra Push In North East India: Around 2,000 Km Of Roads Constructed In Last Two Years

India has completed construction of around 1,819 km of roads in last two years in the north-eastern part of the country to combat the Chinese challenge in the strategic area,
The North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project has been accelerated to solidify the intra-state transmission and distribution electricity links in the region.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region Jitendra Singh revealed that initiatives such as the Rupsi Airport in Assam, Pakyong Airport in Sikkim along with the 30 MW Kameng and 110 Pare hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh had been completed in the previous couple of years.

NEW DELHI: With an eye on China, India has been speeding up infrastructure project construction in the strategic northeastern region of the country, which include 1,819 km of roads completed over the last two years.
The other important projects completed over the last two years in the region include, Pakyong Airport in Sikkim, Rupsi Airport in Assam, 300 MW Kameng and 110 MW Pare hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh, said Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) minister Dr. Jitendra Singh in a written reply to Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
Sikkim chief minister P.S. Tamang (Golay) declared on Sunday that two new districts Soreng and Pakyong would be created by carving out the existing West and East districts, respectively, by next year.
Speaking at the foundation stone-laying of a community health centre (CHC) at Soreng, Golay said the upgrade of Soreng and Pakyong subdivisions to districts could have happened this year itself, but couldn’t because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We will upgrade Pakyong subdivision and Soreng subdivion to districts by 2022,” he said.
Sikkim now has four districts.
The chief minister, who was born in Soreng and had represented the Chakung Assembly constituency from the area for three terms, said he was in favour of upgrading the subdivision not because it is his birthplace, but because both in terms of its geographical area and population, the place deserved to be a district. “Even before the formation of our government, we had declared it in our election manifesto,” he sai
