NTPC generation up 8 2% in FY21; no unpaid discom bills for the year

April 01, 2021 × NTPC Ltd recorded its highest ever generation of 314 billion units of electricity in the financial year ended March, a growth of 8.2 per cent compared to the previous year, even as India’s annual electricity consumption fell amid the coronavirus pandemic. The firm, including subsidiaries, recorded its highest ever single day generation of 1192.42 million units, with a plant load factor of 66 per cent for its coal-fired stations, the firm said in a statement. On a standalone basis, NTPC generated 270.9 billion units, an increase of 4.3 per cent over the previous year. NTPC also realised 100 per cent of the billed amount from the Discoms and for the first time, this realisation crossed ₹1-lakh crore, the statement added. At the same time, pending dues owed to the firm by various discoms stood at ₹16,152.15 at the end of January, according to the Praapti portal.

Power ministry asks regulators to revise power tariffs by Apr 1 every year SECTIONS Share Synopsis In a communication to chairpersons of central and all state power regulatory bodies, the power ministry has sought compliance of legal provisions in the Electricity Act 2003 and the Tariff Policy 2016, which mandate timely determination of the adequate power tariffs by the electricity commissions. Agencies Section 64 of the Electricity Act 2003 provides for determination of cost reflective tariff by appropriate commission within 120 days from receipt of tariff petition. The Central government has asked regulatory commissions to issue tariff orders of all distribution licensees before April 1 of the tariff year and report compliance to the Union power ministry by May 31 every year. Indian Oil Corp prepares to make vehicles run on clean hydrogen in 2022

Indian Oil Corporation s research and development (R&D) centre has been working since the early 2000s to explore the use of hydrogen as a fuel. The use of this gas as a fuel has recently been tested by mixing it with compressed natural gas (CNG) to make H-CNG. This is the next logical step for adopting hydrogen as a fuel, according to officials at the R&D facility of Indian Oil. The R&D division is also in the process of closing a tender to generate clean hydrogen and demonstrate running of vehicles with this fuel. The end-to-end tender involves a demonstration of manufacturing hydrogen from four different technological routes and having car manufacturers running vehicles on gas. This demonstration project is expected to be completed by 2022.
