Lexington PD enforcing traffic laws at collision prone intersections through May

(WOLO)– The Town of Lexington Police are out in full force for the month of May monitoring collision prone intersections.  Police say major intersections like the one on Sunset Blvd and Old Cherokee Road are becoming a bigger problem. “So we’ve come up with a campaign for the major intersections here in town. West Main Street at Park Road, Northlake Drive and Sunset, Sunset and Old Cherokee, Hope Ferry and Sunset, to get the drivers attention that red lights and traffic signals are posted and they have to abide by the rules.”

To do that, officers plan to begin a traffic enforcement campaign that will run throughout the remainder of the month May. The areas officers will focus on during the campaign are intersections where they are consistently receiving reports of collisions. According to officials, over the last few years statistics show crashes are taking place in certain areas and now police want to know what is contributing to the wrecks.

Officials say the following intersections in the Town of Lexington are known to have a high volume of collisions: Augusta Road/US-1 at Cedarcrest Drive North Lake Drive/SC-6 at Old Cherokee Road Sunset Boulevard/US-378 at Corley Mill Road Sunset Boulevard/US-378 at Hope Ferry Road Sunset Boulevard/US-378 at Old Cherokee Road West Main Street/US-1 at Park Road West Main Street/US-1 at Church Street

Severe weather tears through Midlands on Monday afternoon Chris Trainor, The State (Columbia, S.C.) May 3 The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Lexington County on Monday afternoon as a strong storm system ripped across parts of South Carolina. A tornado warning was issued for the Gilbert, Red Bank and Summit areas in Lexington County until 4:15 p.m. Monday. Aside from the possibility of a tornado, the weather service warned of the potential of lightning and quarter-sized hail. At 4:15 p.m., the weather service downgraded the alert to a severe thunderstorm warning for Lexington. The tornado warning for Lexington followed tornado warnings in several other counties in South Carolina, including Newberry, Greenwood, and Abbeville counties on Monday afternoon. Shortly after 2 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service tweeted a confirmation of a tornado in Abbeville County. The Greenwood Index-Journal reported that Abbeville County tornado was near
