BUSY: Cllr Nick Houghton MALVERN S new Mayor has only been in office for just over a month, but has already been busy with engagements. Cllr Nick Houghton was elected mayor of Malvern on May 26 and already his diary has started to become busy with engagements. On July 26, Cllr Houghton attended the Old Con Club in Church Street to open the venue alongside Mark James, a regular favourite at the Malvern Theatres Pantomime. There was a full day and evening of entertainment as this new business opened in the town. Then on July 27, the Mayor opened the first Bands in the Park concert for 2021.
The Old Con Club is under new management and opens its doors on May 20. The Club will champion local artists, musicians, charities and businesses by offering flexible, creative spaces that the whole community can enjoy. The new General Manager is Joe Warriner, a well known local face who has lived in Malvern for 25 years. Joe plans to fill The Old Con Club’s program with professional comedy nights, film screenings, jazz evenings, small scale theatre, magicians, quiz nights and much more. He said: “As well as arranging a wide variety of events, I’d love local artists to contact me to discuss displaying their pieces on our spacious ‘blank canvas’ walls.”
