A series of four concerts by the Tianjin Juilliard Ensemble and the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) Orchestra will be staged at the school s concert hall and the NCPA in May, the renowned music school announced Tuesday.
As part of NCPA s May Music Festival, the concerts in Beijing and Tianjin will include musicians like Chen Lin, Chang Jing, Niccolo Athens, Tan Dun and Chen Qigang.
According to Alexander Brose, executive director of the Tianjin Juilliard School, the collaboration will help connect with our audiences in new and creative ways. Artists from NCPA can share their artistry with students. Meanwhile, our faculty and students can contribute to NCPA s diverse programming.
You re going to play Ravel and Liszt at the upcoming concert, do you consider them your signature pieces?
Ravel and Liszt are not really my signature, I just played them more in recent years and I got the chance to record them for my album. In my heart, there s always an important place for the German-Austrian repertoire. When I practice, I usually play Schubert’s piano sonatas and Brahms’ Handel Variation.
How do you deal with rigorous practice and pressure?
I eat well and sleep well. I love dancing too.
You began your musical training at the age of five in Germany, how was the experience like especially since you were so young?
