PRRD opens Buendia to Balintawak trunkline of Skyway

QUEZON CITY, Jan. 14 President Rodrigo Roa Duterte inaugurated Thursday, January 14, 2021 the 18-kilometer Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 from Buendia, Makati City to Balintawak, Quezon City that connected the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).  Together with the President at the opening ceremony of the elevated expressway built under the Build, Build, Build Program are Department of Public Works and Secretary Mark A. Villar and San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President Ramon S. Ang.  The ceremony was also attended by Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” T. Go, House Speaker Lord Allan Q. Velasco, Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea, and Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade. 

Skyway Stage 3 temporarily closed by DPWH for safety inspection

(DPWH / MANILA BULLETIN) The department said they will conduct an audit of the newly opened elevated expressway from Wednesday night until Friday morning “to ensure all systems are in place for the safety of motorists plying the new toll road.” According to the department, the entire expressway that connects Skyway in Buendia, Makati City all the way to the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Balintawak, Quezon City is covered by the road traffic safety inspection. “We are temporarily closing the Skyway Stage 3 from 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, up to 5 a.m., Jan. 15, to check whether existing measures as well as features and signages are effective in preventing accidents of road users,” Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said.

CABUENAS, GMA News Published January 13, 2021 3:14pm All seven lanes of the 18-kilometer Skyway Stage 3 Elevated Expressway connecting the South Luzon and North Luzon expressways are set to be fully opened to regular vehicles on Friday, January 15, private proponent San Miguel Corp. (SMC) announced.  In a statement released Wednesday, SMC said the entire expressway will be closed starting 10 p.m. on January 13 and will last the whole day of January 14 for a full inspection, set-up, and staging of the opening. The full expressway will then be opened to regular vehicular traffic starting 5 a.m. on January 15.

NLEX reports improved traffic

The NLEX-SCTEX toll plazas reported light traffic in recent weeks, even during the holiday rush, after the operator carried out measures to control congestion. NLEX Corporation is still enhancing its Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system to enable faster reading, upgrading antennas and account management systems. It is also repositioning RFID installation sites and relocating cash as well as reloading lanes at the right side of the toll plazas for better traffic flow.
